Pre-service Checklist
HVAC Maintenance Best Practices
Calling your contractor for HVAC system maintenance is a great way to keep your equipment running smoothly for years to come. To get the most out of a maintenance visit, here's an HVAC maintenance checklist for homeowners.
Residential HVAC Maintenance to Perform Before Your Service Call
If you're thinking about an HVAC maintenance schedule, know that many contractors are busiest in the summer and winter. So it's best to call them in the spring or fall for routine maintenance. However, sometimes you can't help when a problem creeps up. Before you call the pros, do the following HVAC system maintenance. To learn more, view an extended maintenance checklist for contractors on the ENERGY STAR website.
- Review the troubleshooting guide from YORK®.
- Inspect your air filter (one that's too dirty can cause problems) on your air conditioner, furnace or heat pump once a month — clean and change as needed.
- If you discover your heat pump or air conditioner is frozen, shut it off and allow it to thaw.
- Check your thermostat settings.
